A New WebLogic Server Domain: Creation


A domain is the basic administration unit for Oracle WebLogic Server. The domain references the database but does not include database. A domain must contain one administration server. It may be any number of managed servers. For failover, managed servers may be placed in a cluster.

The administration server provide a central point for managing the domain and providing access to the Oracle WebLogic Server administration tools. 

1. Oracle WebLogic Server Administration Console ( GUI to the Admin Server )
2. Oracle WebLogic Server Node Manager (NM): A java program that enables to remotely start and stop the administration and managed server instances. It also monitors and automatically restarts the servers after an unexpected failure.  

To create a new WebLogic Server Domain, perform the following steps:

Step#1: In a terminal, navigate to $MW_HOME/wlserver/common/bin.
            Here, MW_HOME = Middleware_Home



Step#2: Above command will lead you to Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard Page-1.
            There select Create a new domain and give the domain_home path.
            Click Next.




Step#3: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-2
             Here select -
Create Domain Using Products Templates
Template Categories: All Templates
Available Templates: Basic WebLogic Server Domain - 12.2.1

Here you can select according to your requirement.
Click Next.




Step#4: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-3
            Put, Administrative Account username and password (It must be 8 character with a special character and a number).
Click Next.




Step#5: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-4.
            Here select Domain Mode and JDK.
            Click Next.




Step#6: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-5.
            Select advance configurations.
            Click Next.




Step#7: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-6.
            Select Server Name, Listener Address as All Local Addresses and Listener Port.
            Unchecked Enable SSL.
            Click Next.




Step#8: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-7.
            Select Node Manager Type and Node Manager Credentials.
Click Next.




Step#9: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-8.
            Click Next.






Step#10: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-9.
              Click Next.




Step#11: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-10.
              Click Next.




Step#12: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-11.
             Click on Create to create domain.






Step#13: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-12.
              Click Next.




Step#14: Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard, Page-13.
              After the progress reaches 100%, Click on Finish.



A WebLogic Server Domain has been created now.

Step#15: Verification of created domain directory structure.




Step#16: Start the administration server of the created domain.




Step#17: Start Log



As the log will show "Server state changed to RUNNING." that means the administration server is up and running fine.


Step#18: Now, open the administrative console



Put the correct password.

Step#19: The home page of Administrative console.
